The Gospel of Thomas and the Wisdom of Jesus
In 1945 a new gospel was discovered that would alter the way scholars look at gospels, the origins of Christianity, even Jesus himself. In this lecture Rubén Dupertuis and Milton Moreland will introduce the Gospel of Thomas and explain how it challenges just about everything we have assumed to be true in the story of how Christianity began.

Thomas, Q and the Early Christian Wisdom Tradition
Thomas did not appear in a vacuum. For generations scholars have known about other early Christian sayings gospels—wisdom gospels. What can Q, Thomas, and the whole body of early Christian wisdom sayings tell us about the earliest followers of Jesus, and their teacher.
Christianity East of the Euphrates: Thomas at Home
The Gospel of Thomas was written in a place unique among the cities that hosted the earliest Jesus communities: Edessa, beyond the Euphrates River. This, it turns out, makes a world of difference.

Q and the Gospel of Thomas: What do they reveal about Jesus?
Every discussion of the Sayings Gospel "Q" and the Gospel of Thomas raises a host of questions. Do these Gospel sayings provide a new window on the historical Jesus? In this session, Dupertuis and Moreland will introduce more key concepts in these gospels and take your questions about Thomas, Q, and the fascinating discussion that is unfolding around these early Christian sayings gospels.
Rethinking Early Christianity and What it Means for Today
New Gospels? What might this mean for Christian believers today? Is this the same Christianity we have always known, or do Q and Thomas open a new window on this ancient religion? In this final session, Dupertuis and Moreland will engage the audience in conversation about the significance of Q and the Gospel of Thomas.

Rubén René Dupertuis (Ph.D., Claremont Graduate University) is Assistant Professor of Religion at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. He is the Co-Chair of the Ancient Fiction and Early Christian and Jewish Narrative Group and a member of the steering committee for the Bible and American Popular Culture Group, both of the Society of Biblical Literature.
Milton C. Moreland (Ph.D., Claremont Graduate University) is Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Director of the Program in Archaeology at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the editor of Between Text and Artifact: Integrating Archaeology into Biblical Studies Teaching (2003). His other publications include two edited books on the sayings of Jesus.
