Don Smith is a retired petroleum engineer. Born in Winnipeg and raised in Alberta, he earned his BS in chemical engineering from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Though he was the grandson of a Methodist turned United Church of Canada minister, he had a secular upbringing. His introduction to Westar came when in 1996 he offered to drive an aunt to church and just happened to see a Jesus Seminar video. It made sense, he said, and he was hooked. After attending his first meeting in Santa Rosa in 2001, he began working to bring the Jesus Seminar on the Road to Calgary in 2001, then again in 2003, 2005, in 2007, and 2009. Don is particularly keen to raise awareness about the leading edge of thinking on all things Christian, biblical, and religious.
