Westar Institute, the home of the Jesus Seminar, is an advocate for literacy in religion and the Bible. A member-supported, non-profit research and educational institute, its mission is to foster collaborative research in religious studies and to communicate the results of the scholarship of religion to a broad, non-specialist public. Through publications, educational programs, and research projects like the Jesus Seminar, Westar brings Fellows of the Institute—scholars with advanced degrees in biblical studies, religion, or related fields—into conversation with non-specialists from all walks of life.

Westar’s series, Jesus Seminar Guides, is designed to gather the best writings of Westar Fellows from the pages of its membership magazine, The Fourth R, its academic journal, Forum, and occasionally from previously unpublished material. Arranged topically, the Guides summarize the important questions and debates that have driven the work of the Jesus Seminar over the last twenty years. They are intended for use in classrooms, discussion groups inside and outside churches, and for the general reader.
